An award-winning author, speaker, and co-host of the Holy Post Podcast, Skye has written more than a dozen books and served as an editor and executive at Christianity Today for more than a decade. Raised in a religiously and ethnically diverse family, his curiosity about faith led him to study comparative religion before entering seminary and pastoral ministry. With a unique ability to connect Christian thought and contemporary culture, his voice has been featured in The New York Times, USA Today, and The Washington Post, and he’s spoken to audiences throughout the world as diverse as the U.S. Naval Academy, The Chautauqua Institution, and the Lausanne Movement.
Skye earned a Masters of Divinity degree in 2001 from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. He served as a pastoral intern at a local church and a student chaplain at Lake Forest Hospital. Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, is Skye’s undergraduate alma mater where he studied History and Comparative Religion with a special focus on Islam. He also studied Buddhism, Judaism, and Early Christianity. He served as a local church pastor in Wheaton, Illinois, for eight years.
Beliefs
Skye has been employed by and partnered with numerous Christian organizations and churches throughout his career. His work has also allowed him to build bridges of cooperation across denominational barriers and with those of other faiths. Skye affirms the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed as essential articulations of Christian faith and often points to The Lausanne Covenant as a valuable summary of the historic, holistic, and global Christian tradition he belongs to.
Family
Skye and his wife, Amanda, have been friends since high school. They were married in 1999 and currently live in Wheaton, Illinois, with their three children, Zoe, Isaac, and Lucy. Skye’s father immigrated to the United States from India in 1970 to complete his medical training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. His mother was a nurse and native Chicagoan. Growing up in a multiethnic home gave Skye a diverse outlook and broad exposure to cultures that continue to influence his speaking and writing. Before college, he had already traveled to nearly 30 countries on five continents. Skye grew up in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
What kind of name is "Skye"?
Skye is a nickname he’s had since birth. His given name is Akash, a Hindi name meaning sky. (Why the -e was added remains a mystery.) Skye’s middle name is Charles, which he shares with his maternal uncle and Norwegian-American grandfather.
